Jammie Deese was hired as one of the first assistant coaches in UWF football history in March 2014. He will be the first offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for UWF football, and he will also work with the team’s wide receivers.

Deese’s coaching career started under current UWF head coach Pete Shinnick as a graduate assistant at UNC Pembroke in 2007. Deese worked with the running backs and tight ends as a graduate assistant, and he stayed with the team as a part-time running backs coach in 2009. Deese joined the coaching staff full-time in 2010 as a wide receivers coach, and in 2013 he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

UNCP had great success under Deese’s leadership, as the Braves compiled a record of 50-24 with two NCAA tournament appearances in his seven years. UNCP had the ninth best rushing offense in Division II under his watch in 2009. In his first year as an offensive coordinator in 2013, Deese and the Braves’ offense had the ninth best passing offense in the nation. All-American quarterback and Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Luke Charles also ranked in the top 10 in Division II in passing yards, completions and touchdowns in 2013.

Before beginning his coaching career, Deese was a standout wide receiver for Wake Forest from 1996 to 1999. He finished his career with 184 receptions for 2,348 yards (12.8 yards per catch), and he totaled 11 touchdowns. He moved on to the professional ranks in 2000 when he signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins, and the Redskins assigned him to NFL Europe’s Amsterdam Admirals in 2001. Later in his career Deese played for the Carolina Cobras in the Arena Football League, and he also played four seasons in the National Indoor Football League with the Fayetteville Guard from 2006 to 2009.

Deese graduated with his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wake Forest in 2000 and his master’s in sports administration from UNC Pembroke in 2009. Jammie and his wife, Brandi, are the parents of one daughter Hayden.
