University of West Florida Athletics

Bonita Rushing played softball at West Florida from 1989 to 1991 and competed as an exceptional athlete in that time. Rushing played center field and was a leadoff batter. She holds ten high school records including highest batting average, most hits and most stolen bases in a season. In 1988, she was named Most Valuable Player at Pensacola State College and qualified for All-State for the 1988 National Slow Pitch Jr. College Championship. In both 1989 and 1990, she qualified for All-National Tournament teams and became the NAIA District 27 Female Academic Athlete of the Year. She was a three-time Scholar Athlete recipient and a three-time NAIA All-American recipient. Rushing also qualified for the First Team All-American twice and proved to be a fierce competitor during her time at UWF. She graduated in 1991 in Physical Education and since then, her number 11 has been retired.
