Stephen Jackson competed as an outstanding pitcher on the UWF men’s baseball team from 1995 to 1998. Known for pitching a 93-94 mph fastball, Jackson contributed impressive talent to the program. His high school career prepared him for college athletic success, as he led Jay HS to the semi-finals on the mound and at the plate. As a pitcher, he compiled a 7-1 record with a 1.04 ERA and 3 saves. He hit .450 with 7 homeruns and 38 RBIs. Jackson averaged 24 points per game as a forward on his basketball team and earned first team All-District honors as a football wide receiver. He was named a Scholar Athlete at Jay, finishing 10th in his graduating class.
As a freshman at UWF in 1995, Jackson played in all 58 games, hitting .310 with 4 homeruns and 25 RBIs. He had 14 multi-hit games with a 2-run homerun in on opening day. By 1996, he hit .346 and set a UWF record with 20 doubles. He also led the team with 38 runs scored and brought in 25.
At Valdosta State, Jackson hit .714 (10/14) with 4 doubles, 3 RBIs, 1 stolen base and 4 runs. He had 17 multi-hit games and a 12-game hitting streak from March 13-24. In 1997-98, he established career highs for homeruns (6) and RBIs (26). He had his best season on the mound by posting a 3-3 record with a 3.78 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 52.1 innings.
