UWF Breezes Past PCC on Field Trip Day

Danielle Norquest records second double-double of the season

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Danielle Norquest's double-double led the University of West Florida women's basketball team in a 68-45 win over Pensacola Christian on Friday morning, in front of a crowd of 664. The crowd saw Norquest and the Argonauts improve to 2-1 on the season and hold PCC to just 32 percent shooting from the field.

The double-double was Norquest's second in three games this season, and her second of her career. She had 19 points with a career-high 15 rebounds – nine of which were on the offensive glass. As a team, UWF grabbed 22 offensive rebounds and scored 24 second-chance points, compared to PCC's 7.

West Florida took a 15-13 lead into the second quarter, shooting 41 percent from the floor and holding PCC to 23 percent (3-13) from beyond the arc in the first 10 minutes. It was more of the same in the second quarter, and UWF stretched its lead to 31-24 at the half.

The second half was a bit of a different story. West Florida allowed Pensacola Christian to score just two baskets in the third quarter, as the Eagles went 2-13. PCC's six points in the third were the fewest West Florida has allowed in a quarter this season, and UWF's 23 in the fourth were its most.

UWF shot 53 percent (7-13) in the final quarter, and the Argonauts picked up 34 points in the paint in the game.

"This game is always fun, and it's my favorite game of the year," head coach Stephanie Yelton said. "We really packed out the Field House with kids who were excited about sports, excited to see women's basketball. The nice thing about having Field Trip Day with the kids is that it gives the community the opportunity to come see women's basketball.

"So it opens up the door for young girls in our community to be introduced to basketball, introduced to some great student-athletes, and to help build our fanbase. We're hoping those kids come back with our families and start to support our team this season."

West Florida will head to Spring Hill on Tuesday, November 19, before beginning Gulf South Conference play at Union and Christian Brothers next weekend.
