MOBILE, Ala. – UWF fell behind by double digits in the first quarter and never fully recovered before dropping a 72-56 road contest to Spring Hill at the Arthur Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday.

SHC made nine of its first ten shots, including four 3-point field goals on its way to a 24-9 first quarter lead. The Badgers led by 19 at the half after shooting 60 percent from the floor.

SHC extended the margin to 54-28 with 3:26 left in the third. UWF continued to battle and got within 12 early in the final period and 11 with 1:08 to play but couldn't complete the comeback.

"We had a super slow start in the first quarter and that was our downfall," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "I was proud of our determination coming out of halftime. We shot the ball better and played harder. Our team is young and gaining valuable experience every game."

The Argonauts shot 55 percent in the second half and were more aggressive in regards to drawing contact, which resulted in 14 trips to the free throw line compared to just four in the first half.

Sophomore
Charlotte Ellmore led all players with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including four 3-pointers. She also had two assists and four steals. She scored 15 in the second half.

UWF (2-2) shot 39 percent in the game and was 5-of-20 from outside.

Freshman
Mary Denman Luker added a career-high 11 points off the bench and sophomore
Aline Fevrier was 5-for-10 with 10 points in 22 minutes.

SHC (1-5) got its first win of the season with a 53 percent shooting effort, highlighted by 21 points and 10 rebounds from Tiffany Valentine. The Badgers outscored the Argos 32-16 in the paint.

UWF will continue its 3-game road trip as it opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend against Union (3-2) and Christian Brothers. Saturday's game against the Bulldogs in Jackson, Tenn. is scheduled to tip off at 2:00 p.m.
