The UWF Tennis Complex opened in 1968 with six lighted courts. In 1974 the complex underwent renovation adding shade structures, coaches’ offices and six more courts. In 1989 a clubhouse was added and after the addition the UWF Tennis Complex was awarded the United States Tennis Association Tennis Complex Award.
In 1998 the complex was renamed Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex in honor of former UWF tennis coach Skeeter Carson. Coach Carson accumulated 300 match wins in his 17-year tenure. His teams produced four NAIA National Championships, two Rolex Championships and four Arthur Ashe award winners. Coach Carson was named a two time NAIA coach of the year.
Also in 1998 the complex was renovated by resurfacing all 12 courts, putting up new fences, windscreens, nets and repainting the courts. In 2009, the courts were resurfaced with post tension concrete and in 2011 shade structures and new windscreens were added.
The Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex has served as the host site for the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Men’s and Women’s NCAA Tennis Championships.
