UWF swimming and diving extends winning streak at Emmanuel

Argos pick up 128-63 win to win seventh in a row

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 14 West Florida women's swimming and diving team improved to 8-2 with a 128-63 win at Emmanuel (Ga.) on Friday evening. The Argonauts won eight out of 11 events to pick up their seventh straight dual meet win.

The day started with the 400 Medley Relay, and UWF's team of Anna-Marie Macht (Markkleeberg, Germany), Mariana de Paula (Santos, Brazil), Kelsey Fry (Plant City, Fla.) and Peggy de Villiers (Somerset West, South Africa) placed first with a time of 4:10.85. The Argos then picked up another win, as Karisa Kostecki (Lithia, Fla.) placed first with a time of 11:17.38 in the 1,000 Freestyle.

Madeline Pitt (Trussville, Ala.) led UWF with two individual event wins, placing first in the 50 Freestyle (26.10) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:32.60). The Argos also had wins by de Paula in the 200 Individual Medley (2:19.15), Angelina Gallastegui (Brandon, Fla.) in the 100 Freestyle (56.85) and de Villiers in the 500 Freestyle (5:27.06). The event ended with another UWF relay win, as Gabrielle Spangenberg (Chuluota, Fla.), Amelia Strom (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.), Phoebe Briant (Gainesville, Fla.) and Gallastegui combined for a time of 3:49.43 in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

"Today represented a wonderful chance for our team to perform under less than perfect conditions, as we had a longer than expected travel day," said UWF head coach Andrew Hancock. "As always, our enthusiasm and spirit were outstanding, and we had some excellent swims in some events that we don't always get to compete in. I am incredibly pleased with the way our team is coming together down the stretch this season, and tomorrow represents another chance to practice racing on consecutive days against an excellent opponent in Emory."

The Argos will face a tough test on Saturday at Emory, the five-time defending NCAA Division III national champion and current No. 1 ranked team in Division III. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET, and fans can watch with a live video broadcast at www.EmoryAthletics.com.
