PENSACOLA, Fla. – University of West Florida diver
Monica Amaral opened the 2015-16 season right where she left off last year.

Coming off a pair of top three finishes at the NCAA Championships a year ago, the junior broke her own school record in the 3-meter springboard Friday, scoring a 280.95 – a mark that qualifies her for the diving portion of the 2016 NCAA Champs. She completed the diving sweep with another gold in the 1-meter with a 251.65 score.

In the 3-way dual meet, UWF went 1-2, defeating Little Rock 165-75, before falling to Air Force 144.5-98.5 and Tulane 170-72.

Sophomore
Madeline Pitt competed in a very exciting 1650 Free, touching third in a NCAA Division II 'B' Cut time of 17:31.44. It was also the fastest mile time in D2 this season. A pair of Air Force athletes finished just ahead of her in 17:19.40 and 17:30.71.

Pitt swam one of the tougher programs of the meet as she was the top UWF finisher in both the 200 Butterfly and 500 Free, placing ninth and seventh, respectively in those races.

Senior
Paulina Szydlo won silver in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:23.49 – for the third fastest time in the country, while sophomore
Gabrielle Spangenberg was fourth in 2:27.80 and the eighth-fastest nationally.

Senior
Peggy de Villiers recorded the third-fastest 50 Free in the country with a 24.45. Other top-10 national swims were turned in by junior
Rebecca Halfast in the 200 Backstroke and freshman
Lauren Harper in the 200 Free.

The same four teams will compete in a similarly formatted meet on Saturday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the UWF Aquatic Center.
