TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The UWF women's swimming & diving team had a very fast day in the pool on Friday, posting numerous NCAA provisional qualifying times and recording numerous top times nationally. They bettered that performance on Saturday with six top-3 Division 2 national times at Florida State's Morcom Aquatics Center.
The Argonauts completed the weekend with 11 NCAA B-cut performances and posted 19 top-16 times in the country, including ten in the top five.

UWF defeated Florida Southern, 201-152 and fell to Florida State, 260-93.

"I'm really proud of the team to swim as fast as they did, especially when they were fairly tired going into the meet," UWF head coach
Andrew Hancock said. "It gets us excited for what's ahead.

"We've had season bests, lifetime bests and some of the top swims in the country to this point, so other teams will be looking out for us a lot more in the next few weeks as we close out the fall portion of the schedule."

UWF opened Saturday with the quickest 400 Medley Relay in the country, touching in a B-cut worthy time of 3:52.57. The Argos are the first team in the country to achieve the B-cut to this point.

Two events later,
Madeline Pitt was fifth in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:19.83 – good for the fourth-fastest in the country. Angie Gallastegui's time of 10:29.97 was good for the the 11th-fastest this year.

Peggy de Villiers highlighted her meet performance with a gold in the 100 Butterfly. Her 55.91 was a B-cut and the No. 2 ranked time in the country thus far.

Pia Hulley continued to go low in the 100 Backstroke, swimming a pair of top five times on Saturday. Her leadoff leg in the 400 Medley Relay went for 57.80 before she claimed bronze in the 100 Backstroke race with a 57.13 – a B-cut and No. 3 in Division 2. She now has the second-fastest time in both the 100 and 200 Back in Division II.

Gabrielle Spangenberg and
Paulina Szydlo are quickly establishing themselves as two of the top breaststrokers in the country. Szydlo put up the second-fastest 200 Breast on Friday, while Spangenberg's B-cut 1:04.11 on Saturday slotted her in the No. 1 spot at the 100 distance.

In the diving end of the pool,
Monica Amaral was third in the 1-meter competition with a 257.05 total.

UWF closed the meet with the fourth-fastest 200 Free Relay on the book this year, touching in 1:37.33, just behind Florida Southern at 1:37.21.

UWF will be off for a week and a half before the swimmers participate in the FIT Invitational, Nov. 19-22 in Melbourne, Fla., and the divers head to Atlanta for the Emory Diving Invitational, Nov. 21.
