The Argos picked up 12 top-3 finishes in the meet, including 13 head-to-head wins against HSU. UWF outscored Henderson State 233-67 and fell to Delta 185-113.
"It was a good chance to get a look at some conference opponents and let our freshmen see the pool the NSISC meet will be held in so the opportunity was a valuable one," UWF head coach
Andrew Hancock said. "We faced a team that was more ready to go than us, so that was a tough one to take. "Once again the divers did their job against some very tough competition. And
Peggy de Villiers winning the 100 Fly after a tough program was a nice highlight."
UWF won both 1-meter and 3-meter diving handedly, with All-Americans
Monica Amaral and
Josie McKee earning first- and third-place finishes in both events, respectively. De Villiers won the 100 Fly in UWF's one outright win of the meet with a time of 58.55. She ranks 8th in all of Division II with a 55.75 time in the event this year.
Junior
Rebecca Halfast recorded four top-3 finishes in the meet, including a second-place finish as a member of the 400 Medley Relay team. Halfast finished second in the 200 Free and 200 Back, and third in the 100 Fly.
De Villiers was also a member of UWF's 400 Medley Relay team and finished second in the 50 Free, while sophomore
Madeline Pitt recorded three top-3 finishes, in the 200 Fly, 500 Free and 1,000 Free.
"We look forward to being able to have another chance against Delta next week at our place," Hancock said. "We'll see what the team is made of this week. This is a group that has not faced a lot of adversity so we'll how they respond for Senior Day."
UWF will host Delta State and Emory at the UWF Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 23, at 11 a.m., for the Argonauts' final meet of the regular season. West Florida will then travel to Cleveland, Mississippi, again for the NSISC Championships from February 17-20.
