LIVE VIDEO January 23, 2016 PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 9/12 University of West Florida women's swimming and diving team will play host to No. 5/7 Delta State and top-ranked Division III opponent Emory on Saturday in the team's final regular-season meet. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. in the UWF Aquatic Center.
The event will be highlighted by the recognition of senior swimmers
Peggy de Villiers and
Paulina Szydlo and senior diver
Josie McKee. De Villiers is an 8-time All-American and was named the 2013-14 NSISC Championships High Point Swimmer, Szydlo is a two-time All-American and McKee was an All-American in the 3-meter dive at last year's D2 National Championships. Each of the three student-athletes are two-time All-NSISC performers.
Emory enters the weekend as the No. 1-ranked team in Division III, and the team defeated Florida Southern 167-78 just two weeks ago. The Eagles women's team has won six consecutive NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. DSU is 6-1 in dual meets this season and comes into the weekend ranked fifth in D2.
UWF is coming off a double-dual meet at Delta State, which the Argonauts split against the Lady Statesmen and New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference opponent Henderson State. The Argos picked up 12 top-3 finishes in the meet, including 13 head-to-head wins against HSU. UWF outscored Henderson State 233-67 and fell to Delta 185-113.
Saturday's meet will feature 34 total events, including men's and women's 1- and 3-meter dives. UWF's next meet will be a visit to Delta State from February 17-20 for the NSISC Championships.
