UWF Speeds by Keiser and Loyola New Orleans in Home Meet

Michalak and Pitt record two fastest DII times in 400 IM this year

RESULTS

PENSACOLA, Fla.
– The University of West Florida swimming team had no trouble with first-year programs Keiser and Loyola New Orleans in the Argonauts' first home meet of the year. Theresa Michalak and Madeline Pitt each recorded B-cut times in the 400 IM, which were also the two fastest times in Division II in the event this year.

UWF defeated Loyola New Orleans 119-55 in the third-ever meet for the Wolf Pack, while UWF took down Keiser 130-42 in the second meet in Seahawks history.

Michalak's time in the 400 IM of 4:28.38 places her third in UWF history in the event, and the race was one of Pitt's best in her career. She ranks second in the event's history at UWF, with a 4:25.49 at the NSISC Championships last February. Michalak also recorded her fastest 50 Free time in her UWF career, clocking a 23.68 that ranks second in the UWF record books.

In addition to her strong performance in the 400 IM, Pitt put together a good race in the 200 Free, where she recorded a 1:57.38 and edged out Loyola's Paige Carter, who qualified for NAIA nationals in the meet last weekend.

Nicole Machado took both events in the backstroke, with a 59.99 in the 100 and a 2:07.26 in the 200, which paced the field by six seconds.

After having its Saturday meet at Georgia Southern canceled due to issues with the facility in Statesboro, Georgia, the diving team competed in an 11-dive, 1-meter event on Friday just before the swim meet began.

Monica Amaral came up just shy of her own program record with a 494.10 in the event, and she was followed by Marissa Constantakos, who scored a personal best with a 403.60. Meghan Zets, at 376.60, Mariah Constantakos, at 356.65, and Carson Bronnenberg, at 311.80, rounded out the field.

The Argonauts have a bit of a break before their next action. The diving team will visit Clemson on October 29, and the swimmers will face Florida State, Florida Southern and Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Florida, on November 4-5.
