2016-17 UWF MEDIA GUIDE
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 10th-ranked University of West Florida swimming and diving team will continue its season with the final home meet of the year, facing Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, January 7, in a Senior Day meet, sposored by Fazolis. The Argonauts will honor 13 student-athletes, which include six members of the 2013-14 inaugural team, five All-Americans and two national champions.
The meet will be UWF's first since completing a wire-to-wire win at the Panther Invitational in Melbourne, Florida, in November, and the first home meet since the team faced Loyola New Orleans and Keiser in mid-October. West Florida was ranked 10th in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll, and matched the No. 10 position in CollegeSwimming.com's most recent rankings.
The first half of the season was one to remember for West Florida, as
Theresa Michalak set a Division II record in the 100 Breast (1:00.62) and posted three more A-cut times at quad meet against Florida State, Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Southern. The team has also seen strong efforts from
Monica Amaral, who leads DII and ranks sixth across all divisions with a 503.24 in the 1-meter event, and
Madeline Pitt,
Danica Burnett,
Rebecca Halfast, and
Taby Read-Cayton, who have each recorded multiple B-cut times. The team continues to improve upon its already-strong reputation as a diving program, as all five UWF divers have recorded scores to advance to the NCAA Diving Qualifier before the NCAA DII Championships.
Ouachita Baptist will bring members from both its men's and women's teams to Saturday's meet. The men's team finished fourth at the NSISC Championships last February, and the women's team finished seventh.
The meet will begin at 11 a.m., with a 3-meter diving exhibition scheduled for 10:30 a.m., and the Senior Day ceremony will begin at approximately 10:50. A live video broadcast of the event will be available at GoArgos.com.
