MOULTRIE, Ga. – The University of West Florida diving team had no trouble defeating Emory and Birmingham Southern at a season-opening diving invitational on Sunday, as the group finished off the meet with the three-meter event. UWF won both ends of the double dual meet with identical 32-11 scores over the weekend.
The day was highlighted by
Francesca Vozzola's UWF freshman record-breaking score of 258.70 in the three-meter event, a mark that also ranks third in the UWF record books among all divers.
But Vozzola's performance was far from the only strong effort for the Argonauts on Sunday.
Mariah Constantakos scored a personal best 252.55, which puts her fourth all-time in UWF history in the three-meter, and
Carson Bronnenberg's 224.95 was also a personal record.
"Today's event showed our resilience through challenging situations, and we pretty much shined through it," UWF diving coach
Barbara Parker said. "The team enjoyed the weekend and they are looking forward to diving outside again in a few weeks."
Freshman
Samantha Cochrane, a day after recording the fifth-best 1-meter, 6 dive score in UWF history, scored a 235.05 on Sunday, which ranks as the sixth-best 3-meter score in the UWF record books.
The UWF swimming and diving team will next visit Davie, Florida, for the Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern on October 13-14.
