PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida swimming and diving team will look to keep its strong start going with two home meets at the UWF Aquatic Center this weekend, hosting Thomas and Loyola New Orleans on Friday and welcoming Division I opponent Tulane to Pensacola on Saturday.
The Friday meet will begin at 4 pm, and Saturday's action will start at 3 pm.
Seniors
Madeline Pitt and
Grace Sommerville and freshman
Morgan Ayers led the UWF swimmers in their first meet of the year last weekend at the Shark Invitational in Davie, Florida, while rookies
Jesstina Farrell and
Samantha Cochrane led a freshman-laden group of UWF divers at the same meet.
The Argonauts swept both diving events, with Farrell taking the 1-meter and Cochrane winning the 3-meter.
This will mark the fourth time that UWF and Tulane have matched up, last doing so on October 16-17, 2015. The meet against the Green Wave continues a growing tradition of facing DI competition for the Argonauts. In addition to visiting Florida State in just a few weeks for a meet against the Seminoles, North Florida and Florida Southern, UWF will also face Alabama in a diving-only event this fall.
The Argos met up with four DI teams – Florida State, Florida Gulf Coast, Alabama, and Vanderbilt – last year, competed against Tulane, FSU, FGCU and the Air Force Academy in 2015, and hosted FSU and Tulane in the first-ever UWF swimming and diving meet on October 11, 2014.
UWF hosted Loyola New Orleans last year in the Wolfpack's first year of competition, taking a 119-55 win. West Florida is also a perfect 3-0 against Thomas, most recently facing the Night Hawks in 2015. Both Loyola New Orleans and Thomas will bring their men's teams to compete in Pensacola.
