PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's swimming and diving team rolled past Loyola New Orleans and Thomas on Friday afternoon, defeating the Wolfpack from LOYNO 158-82 and overcoming Thomas 163-53. The Argonauts picked up wins in 12 of 13 events, with freshmen
Caitlin Tierney and
Manon Milczynski and senior
Madeline Pitt winning two each.
"We're seeing our team really start to put pieces together and grow," head coach
Andrew Hancock said. "We're really pleased with the way everyone raced. Tonight was a great warmup for what we have coming tomorrow in Tulane, and we can't wait for the test."
Tierney and fellow freshman
Christina Kilpatrick took first and third in the 1,000 Free, with Tierney posting the fastest time in the pool with a 10:50.72 to take her first win of the afternoon, and Kilpatrick coming in at 11:08.36. Tierney's second win at the meet came in the 200 Back, where her 2:13.65 was more than two seconds better than the rest of the field.
The 100 Breast marked Milczynski's first win, when she finished in 1:09.66 with the fastest first 50 and the fastest final 50 in the pool, at 32.82 and 36.84. West Florida completely swept the 100 Breast, as
Danica Burnett took second at 1:11.29,
Sophia Oliva finished third at 1:12.65 and
Julia Kostecki's 1:13.06 was good for fourth.
Tierney would also finish second in the 50 Free where teammate
Taby Read-Cayton's 24.48 just edged out Tierney's 24.71, and the 200 Free Relay team featuring both Tierney and Read-Cayton swam a 1:38.81 to end the meet and score another win for UWF.
Ardinn Grabenhorst posted a 2:12.11 in the 200 Fly to earn a win, marking the first of her career.
Pitt claimed the 200 Free with a 1:56.19 for her first win of the afternoon, and
Morgan Ayers followed close behind with a 2:00.29 in the event. Pitt's strongest swim at the meet came in the 100 Fly, when her 58.61 was good for another win and paced the second-place finisher by more than 3 seconds.
Fellow senior
Grace Sommerville recorded a 4:41.52 in the 400 IM, nearly nine seconds faster than Madeline Raue's solid 4:50.24 in the event.
Pia Hulley edged out Kamy Alexander from LOYNO for a win in the 100 Back, with the pair finishing at 1:01.06 and 1:01.41.
The night began on a strong note with UWF finishing in the top three spots in the 200 Medley Relay.
Burnett recorded a 53.97 in the 100 Free, besting the field by nearly 2 seconds.
West Florida will host Tulane on Saturday at 3 pm in the UWF Aquatic Center.
