PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida swimming and diving team opens its season tomorrow in Moultrie, Georgia, with a diving event against host Emory and Birmingham Southern. The day will begin at 1:00 pm ET at the Woodruff Physical Education Center and continue October 1 starting at 12:00 pm ET.
Among those representing UWF at the weekend's diving-only competition will be CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American
Mariah Constantakos, NSISC Scholar-Athlete
Carson Bronnenberg, and newcomers
Samantha Cochrane,
Jesstina Farrell, and
Francesca Vozzola.
Barbara Parker, who has won four consecutive NSISC Diving Coach of the Year awards, will once again head up the squad.
The UWF swimming and diving team finished sixth at the NCAA Championships in March. The team accumulated 22 All-Americans and 6 individual national championships. The Argonauts finished third at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference championship in February. The Argos sent 10 student-athletes to the national meet in March.
West Florida continues a growing tradition of scheduling top competition to start the season. Host Emory has won eight consecutive NCAA Division III national team championships. In the inaugural 2013-14 campaign, the Argonauts hosted Florida State and Tulane. In the fall of 2014, North Florida and Vanderbilt made the trip to Pensacola for a season-opener, and the Air Force Academy, Tulane and Arkansas-Little Rock opened the season at the UWF Aquatic Center in 2015. The team opened the 2016 season with a matchup against Vanderbilt and Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
