West Florida Hosts Season Opener Friday

FRIDAY: LIVE STATS | VIDEO

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos will start their season by hosting a swimming invitational on Friday night against South Georgia College, Thomas University, and Loyola New Orleans at 5pm in the UWF Aquatic Center. There will be no diving at this event as the diving team will be heading off to Moultrie, Georgia for matchups against Georgia Southern University, Emory University, and Birmingham Southern College on Saturday at 1pm ET and Sunday at 12pm ET. The Argonauts will look to build on the success they had this past year finishing 2nd in the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference and 23rd at the NCAA DII National Championships.

The UWF Divers will feature three returners from last year's squad. The three returners are Carson Bronnenberg, Mariah Constantakos, and Jesstina Farrell. The new diver for West Florida this year will be freshman, Daniela Reyes.

All three returners are coming off of very impressive seasons. Broonenberg finished second in 3-meter diving with a score of 420.10 and fifth in 1-meter diving with a score of 388.25 at the NSISC Championships last year. Constantakos scored a 357.30 in the 3-meter and a 336.15 in the 1-meter to finish 21st and 22nd at the NCAA Championships. Farrell was the first UWF freshman diver to earn All-America status by finishing 14th with a 399.75 in the 3-meter at the NCAA Championships.

West Florida will be returning a superb group of swimmers as well this year with Caitlin Tierney, Morgan Ayers, Taby Read-Cayton, and Pia Hulley leading the charge for the Argos. Tierney was a three-time finalist at the NSISC Championships, finishing fourth in the 50 Free (23.59), sixth in the 200 Free (1:51.76), and eighth in the 100 Free (52.44). Ayers finished first in the NSISC Championships last year, for the 100 Breast (1:02.57) and 200 IM (2:04.25). Read-Cayton won the 50 Free and 100 Free at the NSISC Championships a year ago. Hulley is a three-time All-NSISC selection and helped lead the Argonauts to two relay titles at the NSISC Championships, in the 200 Medley and 400 Medley last year.
