PENSACOLA, Fla.- In their first home match of 2020, the UWF men's tennis team quickly extinguished Lee by a score of 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The win moves the Argonauts to 6-1 and 4-0 in Gulf South Conference play while Lee drops to 2-3, and 0-1 in the GSC.
The third ranked men got off to a quick start in doubles play as the Swedish duo of Serdar Bojadiev and
Adam Svensson easily defeated the 20th ranked duo in the nation, Bruno Medeiros and Antonio Pons, by a score of 6-2. Â
Nicholas Lecoutre and
Gabriel Nery plus the pairing of
Salvador Bandeira and
Juan Motta finished off the sweep in doubles action as they won 6-4 and 6-3, respectively.
Singles play would see Lee take their only match of the day as Nico Ramirez defeated Nicholas Lecoutre 4-6, 6-4, 7-0. However, the Argos would bounce back in the remaining matches, winning four of five in straight sets with Motta, Bandeira, Svensson and
Pedro Cordeiro each capturing a victory. Senior
Juan Cabrera was the only Argo to need a third-set tiebreaker as he won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Next Up: The boys will travel to Oklahoma City for a trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship from Feb. 28th- Mar.1st. They will open play against fourth ranked Wingate on the 28th with the time to be announced.
