UWF Men's tennis falters in opening match against Georgia Gwinnett

Fall 4-0, faces Florida Southern on Monday

VALDOSTA, Ga.- The third ranked men's tennis team dropped their season opening match against NAIA power Georgia Gwinnett, by final of 4-0 at the VSU Tennis Complex in Valdosta, Georgia on Sunday afternoon.

UWF faced a tough opponent in Georgia Gwinnett who featured seven top-25 players in the ITA Fall rankings and it showed as the Argos were only able to win two sets in all of the matches combined.  The Grizzlies won all of the double matches putting early pressure onto West Florida.

Despite the tough loss, UWF Tennis coach, Derrick Racine remained positive.  "Today's match as a great match for us both on the men's and women's side, Racine said.  It's always good to start out our season with a very good non conference opponent."

The Argonauts will look to seniors Serdar Bojadiev, Juan Motta and Juan Cabrera to get UWF back on track.  All suffered tough defeats on Sunday.

The team will look to get back on track tomorrow, Monday February 10th, against Florida Southern.  The Mocs will be a tough challenge but Coach Racine thinks the Argos will be up to the task.

"Tomorrow's match should be a tough one on both the men's and women's side.  Florida Southern has a very good program and we always have hard-fought matches with them.  It's always tough to start off the season with top teams and a long road trip, but I think  this will really prepare for what is to come, especially in the month of February when we will travel a lot and play a lot of high-quality teams."

The match between the Argonauts and the Mocs begins tomorrow afternoon at 2pm ET/1pm CT from the VSU Tennis Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
