Men's Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep with win over UT Tyler

Heads to San Antonio for Spring Break Tournament on Friday

PENSACOLA, Fla.- Playing at home for the second day in a row, the third-ranked UWF men's team prevailed over UT Tyler by a final of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

The wins jumps the Argonauts to 9-3 while the Patriots fall to 1-7 on the year.

Even with the large scores, West Florida head coach Derrick Racine knows that the Argos can take away a lot from the matches.  "Although UT Tyler is not a regional opponent, they are well known for having strong programs every year", Racine noted.  "The individual scores of the matches were much closer than the overall score and it was a good test for us at home and a good way to end the first half of the season prior to spring break."

UWF got off to a blazing start as they took all three double's matches by finals of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4. Line-up regulars Serdar Bojadjiev, Adam Svensson, Nicolas Lecoutre, Gabriel Nery, Juan Motta and Salvador Bandeira provided the wins for West Florida.

The good play continued for the UWF men as they took five out of their six singles' matches in straight sets. Motta, a senior, bounced back after a tough loss yesterday to take a 6-3, 6-3 win with Lecoutre also returning from hard luck yesterday to rebound with a 6-2, 6-4 victory today.  Nationally ranked seniors Bojadjiev and Cabrera took care of business while Pedro Cordeiro returned to the line-up at the No.6 spot to take a 6-4, 6-0 win. Jorge Sala Frigieri was the only Patriot to win a match all day with a three set victory.

Overall, it was a good weekend for the Argos as they also defeated fifth-ranked Saint Leo yesterday.  "Saturday's match was a huge one for us on the men's side", Racine continued.  "The match against Saint Leo was super important for regional seedings and post season match-ups.

The men will take a few days off before returning to action in a Spring Break Tournament in San Antonio, Texas on March 13-15.  This is a tournament that Coach Racine knows will be big for the Argos. "This week we are heading to San Antonio on a high note with our men captializing on big wins and we are hoping to carry that momentum into the tournament.
