No. 5 Swimming and Diving Travel to Florida State for Annual Quad Meet

UWF will compete against Florida State, Florida Southern, and North Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 5 West Florida Swimming and Diving team hits the road for their second time this season as they gear up for a quad meet against Florida State, Florida Southern, and North Florida on Friday, Oct. 21. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. (ET) and will be at the Molcom Aquatic Center.

The Argos have won their first three meets of the season and climbed to No. 5 in the latest CSCAA Poll released on Oct. 14. The Argonauts recorded 245 points and sits behind Indianapolis who tallies 261 points as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation.

Veterans Brooke Simila and Stefanie Markwardt have made a strong contribution to this Argo team. Against Birmingham-Southern, UWF won every event and placed top-three in several events.

On the boards, the Argos have three divers that have already qualified for the NCAA Diving Qualifier in March of 2023. Adriana Mieses-Sanchez, Jade Fontenelle, and Daniela Reyes have all made qualifying boards for the Argos.

West Florida finished 12th in the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships last March. Six athletes earned CSCAA first team All-American honors including Aimee Patterson, Stefanie Markwardt, Daniela Reyes, and Brooke Dorr. The Argos won their third straight NSISC Championship, making it their fifth title in program history.

Academically, UWF have earned CSCAA All-American honors for their seventh year in a row as the Argos had fifth highest GPA in women's division II with a 3.67.

ABOUT FLORIDA STATE
The Division I Seminoles dominated the Osprey Invite, defeating Georgia Southern and UNF earlier in October, scoring 1,345.5 points. The Seminoles have hosted UNF, UWF, and Florida Southern annually since 2017.

The marks the Noles second meet of the season with a first-place finish at the Osprey Invite on Oct. 7. Standout for the Noles, Edith Jernstedt, had five wins at the meet with top finishes including the 100 fly (54.33) and 200 fly (1:59.27). Gloria Muzito recorded four wins for the Noles in the 200 free (1:52.26), 50 free (24.04), and 100 free (51.87). In their last meetup in 2021, the Argos were shy 19 points as the Noles won 259-240.

ABOUT FLORIDA SOUTHERN
The Mocs are led by Alizee Pelletier, Teagan Michalek, and Erin McCann as the trio picked up individual first-place finishes against Rollins. FSC defeated Rollins 146-110 after dropping the meet Arkansas (121-77). Florida Southern is 1-1 for dual meets on the season and sits at No. 10 in the women's CSCAA Top-25 Poll. The Argos defeated FSU 175-118 last season as UWF holds the overall record with six wins over the Mocs.

ABOUT NORTH FLORIDA
The Ospreys are 2-1 with wins over Georgia Southern (136-126) and Little Rock (171-144) earlier in the season. Freshman Faith Mutschler made her presence known for UNF in the 1000 free, swimming the 10th fastest time in program history.

The overall record is 5-1 with UWF on top with five wins. Last season, the Argos won 202-90 against the Ospreys.

Friday's contest will follow the 16-event format, featuring the 100s and 200s of each stroke in addition to the 50, 500, 1000 free, and 200 IM. The meet will start with the 200 medley relay and end with the 200 free relay. Both 1-meter and 3-meter will run simultaneously to swimming.
