West Florida Defeats North Florida and Florida Southern in Tallahassee

Markwardt earns three top finishes on the day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-
The No. 5 West Florida Swimming and Diving team claimed two wins at the Morcom Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon. The Argonauts defeated North Florida 211-82 and Florida Southern 200-93 but fell to Division I team Florida State 224-73.

In the first event of the day, UWF claimed a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:47.59) with Nina Imboden, Stefanie Markwardt, Brooke Dorr, and Emily O'Connell.

To start the distance events, freshman Shannah Dillman and graduate student Yael Danieli came fourth and fifth in the 1000 free with 10:40.86 and 10:44.55, respectively.

Junior Kathryn Mipro claimed a third-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.52. Her teammate Sophia Kendzior touched the wall in fourth with 1:56.05.

Standouts Imboden and Dorr finished fourth and fifth in the 100 back with 59.49 and 50.72, respectively. Junior Brooke Simila clinched a top three spot as she touched the wall in 1:06.49 in the 100 breast.

Freshman Sydney Dawson earned a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.09. Senior Markwardt had quite a performance on the day as she finished top three in two individual events and one relay. She earned a third-place finish in her first individual event of the day in the 50 free (24.12), sophomore Aimee Patterson was shortly behind with 24.37 and a fifth-place finish.

In the 500 free, Kendzior touched third with 5:07.44 behind UNF swimmer Faith Mutschier. Markwardt came in first with 56.25 in the 100 fly to earn the Argos first place finish of the day. Her teammate junior O'Connell finished third with 56.83 seconds.

Freshman Ellie Rothfuss came in fifth in her first individual event of the day in the 200 IM (2:11.60). Teammate Sydney Hartis claimed eighth with 2:13.26.
In the diving well, Michelee Mejia (258.15), Jade Fontenelle (252.68), Adriana Mieses-Sanchez (248.18), and Olivia Nelson (236.48) finished fifth through eighth on the 1-meter boards behind the Noles.

On the 3-meter boards, Fontenelle and Nelson claimed fourth and fifth with a score of 256.80 and 254.63, respectively.  

The Argonauts ended the day with a second place finish in the 200 free relay compiled of Markwardt, O'Connell, Dorr, and Mipro with a time of 1:36.38.
