PENSACOLA, Fla.- In their first match of the season, the No. 6 West Florida Men's Tennis Team defeated a tough Lee team 6-1.

In today's match, the Argonauts came out swinging by winning all three matches in doubles. That momentum carried into singles play with the Argos winning five out of six singles matches.

Tomas Descarrega and partner Facundo Bermojo got back into the swing of things with a 6-4 win from the No. 1 position.
Lluis Miralles Miro and
Bernardo Costa picked up a 6-3 win over the Flames as the No. 2 position.
Salvador Bandeira and
Albin Ekenros won 7-5 from the No. 3 position to secure all three wins in doubles.

From the top half of the lineup, junior
Facundo Bermejo played an intense match that ended in a tiebreaker to decide the outcome. Bermejo loss the match 6-2, 3-6, 0-1.

In the No. 2 position,
Juan Cabrera dominated the court winning 6-1,6-3.
Tomas Descarrega, playing in the No. 3 position, picking up a second-set victory 6-1, 7-6.

From the bottom half of the lineup,
Bernardo Costa played in the No. 4 position winning 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Albine Ekenros pulled out his first win this season winning 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 position.

Sebastian Sotelo came in as the No. 6 position winning the match 6-1, 6-1. This was Costa, Ekenros, and Sotelo's first college matches as they dominated on the courts. The win today improves the Argonaut's record to 1-0 on the season.

 "It was a great start to the season, the guys played really well," said head coach
Derrick Racine. "Lee is always a tough opponent; all three doubles were really close. We won the first set on every court and our guys really dominated in the singles and doubles matches."

Up Next: The UWF men and women's tennis teams will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championship from Feb. 18-20.
