LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The No. 6 West Florida Men's Tennis Team ended their road trip for the weekend with a win against West Alabama. The Argonauts improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
West Florida will continue their momentum into the coming week as they will face three more opponents this week.
"West Alabama has a very good team and this was a crucial match for us for GSC standings," said head coach
Derrick Racine. "In singles every match was very close and we were able to pull out victories at number one number four and number five. All in all it was a great win for us and a match that we definitely wanna build on."
Today's match was another great day of play for the Argonauts as they secured two of the three doubles points.
Tomas Descarrega and his partner Fancundo Bermejo teamed up from the No. 1 position winning their match 6-1.
Salvador Bandeira and
Albin Ekenros were the only team that dropped their match from the No. 2 position falling 6-7.
Bernardo Costa and Pedro Cordiero won their match 6-3 from the No. 3 position.
The Argonauts got off to a strong start in singles with a win by
Juan Cabrera from the No. 1 position 6-4, 6-2.
Facundo Bermejo fell short 4-6, 4-6 from the No. 2 position.
Bernardo Costa dropped his match in an intense match that led to a tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.
In the bottom of the lineup,
Tomas Descarrega cruised through his match winning 6-2, 7-5 from the No. 4 position. From the No. 5 position, Sebastin Sotelo won his match 7-6, 6-3.
Salvador Bandeira rounded out the match falling short in a tiebreaker 2-6, 6-4, 0-1.

Derrick Racine had to say about the match, "The men's match was a great match we started off well and won the doubles point with some aggressive play which turned out to be key for the match today."
