PENSACOLA, Fla.- It was a great day for the West Florida Women's Tennis Team as they took down two Gulf South Conference opponents. In their second match of the day, the Argonauts swept West Georgia 7-0 to improve to 10-7 overall and 6-1 in GSC play.
The Argonauts kept the momentum going as they swept all three doubles matches to secure the lone point.
Guilanna Sacco and her partner
Karolina Silwanowicz dominated their match 6-3 from the No. 1 position.
Irene Recuenco and
Raissa Wagner teamed up from No. 3 position, sweeping the match 6-0.
Mayumi Saguchi and
Sara Yigin came in from the No. 2 position, winning their match 6-4 to give the Argonauts the advantage heading into singles play.
In singles, Recuenco secured the first point to win the match in two sets 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 2 position. Yigin dominated her match from the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-0. From the No. 3 position, Silwanowicz came up with the win 6-4, 6-1. This improves her singles record to 7-4 on the season.
From the bottom half of the lineup, Wagner pulled out the win from the No. 4 position 6-2, 6-1. The next point would come from
Luiza Daud, who won her match 6-2, 6-1 from the No. 5 position. The last point of the day would come from Sacco, who helped the Argos secure the win 6-2, 6-2 from the No. 6 position.
"The women played a great couple of matches today and improved their record in GSC play. We have a tough match tomorrow and then next weekend we will close out conference play with tough matches against UM and shorter. The girls are in position to finish number two in the conference if they can win out their last three matches." commented head coach

The UWF Women's Tennis Team will be back in action at home tomorrow to face Mississippi College at 1 PM.
