Strong Performance Throughout the Lineup to Sweep Auburn Montgomery

The Argos improve to 8-0 in conference play

PENSACOLA, Fla.- It was another successful day for the #9 West Florida Men's Tennis Team as they swept 44th ranked Auburn Montgomery 7-0 on Friday afternoon. This marks the Argonauts sixth sweep of the season.

The Argonauts improve to 15-4 and undefeated 8-0 in GSC play while the Warhawks drop to 8-9 and 3-2 in conference play.

In doubles, the Argos swept from all three doubles positions to secure the lone point. "The men played at great match today. The doubles were very close and we were able to pull out all three one of them in a very close tiebreaker," noted head coach Derrick Racine.

Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega came in as the No. 1 pair, winning a close match 7-6. Bernardo Costa and Pedro Cordeiro were victorious from the No. 3 position as they dominated their match 6-4.

Lluis Miralles Miro and his teammate Salvador Bandiera secured the final doubles point for the Argos from the No. 2 position, winning their match 6-4. This gave the Argos the momentum heading into singles play.

The Argonauts dominated throughout the lineup, winning from all six singles positions.

Descarrega got the first singles point for the Argos, dominating his match 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 3 position. The next point would come from Bermejo, who was victorious 7-5, 6-2 from the No. 2 position.

Juan Cabrera played an intense match from the No. 1 position, he dropped the first set 5-7, won the second 6-3, and won the tiebreaker 10-8 to secure the point for the Argos.

From the bottom half of the lineup, Costa dominated his match 6-4, 6-2 from the No. 4 position. Cordeiro pulled out the win 7-5, 6-1 from the No. 6 position. Sebastian Sotelo was victorious from the No. 5 position, winning his match 6-3, 6-0.

After the win today, the Argos are 12-0 at home on the season as they head into their last home match of the season on Saturday.

"In the singles matches, they were all very tight in the first set and we were able to win some very key first sets and then continue on and take all of the singles matches. It was a great match for us and puts us well situated for the GSC tournament."

The Argonauts will be back at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex for more GSC action against Shorter tomorrow morning at 10 AM.
