COMPOSITE RESULTS (pdf)
ATLANTA, Ga.- The No. 6 West Florida Swimming and Diving Team split a dual meet against No. 14 Delta State and Emory on Saturday morning at the WoodPEC Aquatic Center. The Argonauts defeated nationally ranked The Lady Statesmen 215-84, but fell to the Eagles 162-130.
UWF had an impressive start to the day with a top-three finish in the 200 medley relay composed of
Stefanie Markwardt,
Nina Imboden,
Brooke Dorr, and
Aimee Patterson (1:49.05).
Graduate
Yael Danieli clinched third in the 1000 free distance event as she touched the wall in 10:46.39.
Tori Johnston came in fourth with a time of 10:50.76.
Kathryn Mipro championed the Argonauts first win of the meet in the 200 free in 1:56.31. Her teammate
Sofia Kendzior finished fourth with a time of 1:57.07. Imboden came in fifth in her first individual event in the 100 back (59.39).
Brooke Simila and
Morgan Despres finished fifth (1:07.86) and sixth (1:08.29), respectively. Leader for the Argonauts, Markwardt, earned a top-three spot in the 50 free as she swam the event in 24.34. Her teammates Patterson and Dorr finished top-ten respectively in sixth (25.03) and seventh (25.44), respectively. Graduate student from Greensville, N.C., Despres claimed fourth in the 100 free with 53.88. The freshman from Switzerland, Imboden finished fifth in the 200 back in 2:07.44.
Simila swam an impressive race in the 200 breast as she finished first in 2:26.52.
Ellie Rothfuss followed shortly after in fourth with a time of 2:32.33. Kendzior secured the Argos third first-place finish of the meet in the 500 free (5:12.66) while
Rylee Woelk claimed fourth (5:15.63). The Niceville, Fla. native, Markwardt, won the 100 fly as she touched the wall in 55.78.
West Florida crushed the 400 IM as three Argos place in all top-three spots with
Shannah Dillman claiming first (4:37.75), Danieli in second (4:40.61), and
Sydney Hartis finishing third (4:49.25). West Florida finished the meet strong in the 400 free relay with all three Argo relay teams finishing in the top-three spots.
The Argonauts dominated on the 1- and 3- boards as
Michelle Mejia finished first in the 1-meter competition as she scored the highest amount of points with 296.40. On the 3-meter dive,
Jade Fontenelle rounded out the third with 260.90 points followed by
Adriana Mieses-Sanchez (256.60) in fourth,
Jillian Swinehart in fifth (243.60), and
Daniela Reyes in sixth (240.90).
"Our divers are becoming more consistent and getting their competitive edge. Championship season should be very exciting!" said head diving coach
Barbara Parker.
West Florida will be back next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a meet against Division I school Tulane in New Orleans, Louisiana.
