VALDOSTA, Ga.- The West Florida women's tennis team dropped a tough match to No. 4 Saint Leo 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts. The Argos fall to 4-6 on the season and the Lions improve to 11-1.
The Lions did not come away too easy with the lone point in doubles as the Argos fought from all three doubles positions. The West Florida comeback was not enough to take down Saint Leo.
In doubles action,
Luiza Daud and
Jenna Svatos fell 7-5 as the No. 2 pair to Luzia Obermeier and Kamilya Shailina. The No. 1 doubles duo for the Argos,
Aline Midori Da Silva and Verdu, could not come away with the win as they fell in a tight match 6-4.
Guadalupe Martinez and
Mayumi Saguchi's match went unfinished due to the Lions securing the lone point.
From the top of the lineup, Saguchi fell from the No. 1 position 6-2, 6-1 to No. 21 Marta Vicens Miquel. Midori Da Silva dropped her match 6-3, 6-4 as No. 3.
Carlota Verdu grabbed the lone point in singles from the No. 2 position 6-2, 6-0. She improves to 5-3 from the No. 2 position.
Martinez fought hard from the No. 4 position, but ultimately fell 6-1, 7-6 to Lavinia Lancellotti.
Jenna Svatos and Daud could not grab the win from the No. 5 and No. 6 position, respectively. Svatos lost 6-1, 6-2 and Daud fell 6-1, 6-4.
The Argos are back in action at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Tuesday, March 14 against North Georgia. First set will begin at 10 a.m.
