PENSACOLA, Fla.- No. 7 West Florida men's tennis team swept No. 13 Ouachita Baptist 7-0 on their home courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Argos move up to 11-2 and hold a 6-0 record on their home courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UWF had the momentum from the beginning, starting with doubles as the Argos swept the Tigers from all three positions.
Albin Ekenros and
Adam Svensson dominated their match from court 3 with a 6-2 win.
Bernardo Costa and
Sebastian Rondon were victorious in a close match 7-6 as the No. 2 pair.
Two top-ranked doubles teams squared off from the No. 1 position. No. 2
Facundo Bermejo and
Tomas Descarrega faced No. 4 Alex Blanchar and Phil Exner for a great match of doubles play. Bermejo and Descarrega claimed the victory 7-5 and grabbed their tenth win as a pair.
The Argos carried the momentum from doubles to singles.
West Florida grabbed three wins from the bottom half of the lineup.
Santiago Kearney had a great win from the No. 4 position as he won 6-2, 6-3.
Mateo Martinez finished first for the Argos with a win 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 6 singles. Rondon completed his match in two sets 6-3, 7-5 as No. 5.
Costa won his match in two sets 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 3 singles. No. 20 Bermejo came out victorious 6-3, 6-3 from the No. 2 position to add to the Argo lead.
Descarrega won in a difficult match against the No. 12 player in the nation Alex Blanchar. He fell in the first set 4-6, won the second 6-2, and closed it out with a 6-3 victory in the third set from the No. 1 position.
Up Next: The West Florida tennis teams will honor their seniors on Saturday, March 26 with a match against Xavier (La.). The senior festivities will begin before the match at 10 a.m.
