JACKSONVILLE, Fla - The University of West Florida Women's Swimming opened their competition season this morning in Jacksonville as the Argos traveled to the University of North Florida to compete against the Ospreys in their first meet of the season. Because of the recent events of Hurricane Helene, the Argos have been patiently waiting to compete after a couple of their early meets were canceled. With many new faces joining the Argos, the team was ready to compete in the water. UWF fell in a close match with a final score of 132-130.
1000 Yard Freestyle
Standout Junior Sofia Kenzior took first place in the 1000 Free by nearly 20 seconds, with her time of 10:36.41. Sophomore
Aubrey Klausner finished second with her time of 10:53.37 and newcomer freshman
Caroline Dimig earned the third place finish with her time of 10:58.26.Â
200 Yard Freestyle
After a great debut season, sophomore
Riley MacVane began her second season strong, taking first in the 200 Free with her time of 1:55.97. Junior
Tori Johnston finished second in the race, swimming a 1:57.14, and sophomore
Olivia Copland took third, swimming 1.58.17.
100 Yard Backstroke
Gillian Gotaas swam strong in the 100 back, securing first place with her time of 59.27. Freshman
Ruby Nussbaum made her debut, placing fifth with her time of 1:01.20.
100 Yard Breaststroke
Sophomore Rutgers transfer
Alena Rozova earned second place in the 100 breast with her time of 1:05.66.
200 Yard Butterfly
Freshman
Taylor Messerschmitt placed second in the 200 fly for the Argos with her time of 2:11.24 for the morning.Â
50 Yard Freestyle
Speedy freshman
Sydney Lewis came back this season ready to continue to show off her strengths. The sophomore took first in the 50 free with her time of 24.30. 5th year senior
Aimee Patterson finished fourth with her time of 24.91 and 5th year
Emily O'Connell finished 5th swimming 24.96.
200 Yard Backstroke
Gillian Gotaas swept the backstroke events, taking first in the 200 with her time of 2:09.49 for the morning.
200 Yard Breaststroke
Sophomore
Olivia Copland placed second in the event with her time of 2:25.34, and freshman
Ruby Nussbaum placed fourth swimming a 2:30.80.
500 Yard Freestyle
The Argos swept first through third in the 500 free this morning. Sophomore
Riley MacVane took first with her time of 5:09.14.
Tori Johnston finished second, swimming a 5:13.80,
Sofia Kendzior at third with a time of 5:18.43.
100 Yard Butterfly
Sydney Lewis placed second in the event with a time of 57.45,
Taylor Messerschmitt third with a time of 58.13, and
Emily O'Connell in fourth swimming a 59.04.Â
200 Yard IM
Shannah Dillman fell right where she left, at the top of the 200 IM race for the Argos, finishing first with her time of 2:09.58. Freshman
Ellie Dimig earned third in her first meet, swimming a 2:13.81.
400 Freestyle Relay
Consisting of
Sofia Kendzior,
Riley MacVane,
Alena Rozova, and
Sydney Lewis took second in the final event of the morning with a time of 3.31.91.
