PENSACOLA, Fla. – Power hitting and dominant pitching continued to be the story of the weekend for West Florida (4-3) as the Argonauts defeated the Florida Southern Mocs (3-4) by a 4-0 Margin Saturday.
Montana Young earned win no. 3 on the season after pitching four innings without allowing a run and throwing two strikeouts with two walks.
Alayna Lowery and
Hannah Harper also contributed on the mound, with Harper getting her first save of the season.
It was "déjà vu all over again" for
Jessie Baughan and
Jessica Ford as the duo each added a home run to their season totals for the second straight game. Ford opened up the scoring for the Argos with a solo home run in the bottom of the third to drive the lead to 1-0. Baughan capitalized off of hits from
Cameron Wolfenden and
Madelyn Vasquez, driving in the pair on a three-run blast to left field. The North Alabama transfer leads the Argos with seven RBI's on the season.
Vasquez continues her consistency at the plate, earning her third multi-hit stat line of the season. She currently leads UWF in hits (8) and runs (5) seven games in to 2024. Her .471 batting average on 17 at-bats is the best on the team.
With UWF's sweep of FSC, the Argos are now 7-6 against the Mocs since 2007. Up next, the Argos hit the road for a tour of Georgia on the first trip of a two-week road stretch.
UWF faces Valdosta State in a non-conference double-header on Wednesday, and then heads to Columbus, GA for a non-conference face-off with Tusculum, Newberry, and Columbus State. They cap off their trip to Georgia with one final stop in Americus, GA to take on Georgia Southwestern.
