UWF Softball Takes Both Games Against Spring Hill on the Road

UWF extends win streak to 14 games, Baughan hits home run for third straight game

MOBILE, Ala. – UWF Softball (28-12, 15-6) swept the Spring Hill Badgers (17-15, 16-0) this season by picking up a couple wins in Mobile Tuesday afternoon.

UWF is now on a 14-game win streak and is 24-11 against in-region opponents this season. Their all-time record over Spring Hill improves to 28-6 and 17-2 in head coach Ashliegh McLean's tenure.

The Argos' long ball-driven offense continues to click, and today's doubleheader against the Badgers was no exception. Jessie Baughan hit a home run in both games Tuesday, making it three straight games with a home run for the sophomore. Baughan leads the Argos with 16 on the season, tied for third-most in the GSC.

Madelyn Vasquez launched a grand slam in the fifth inning of game two, after also hitting a triple in game one. UWF got extra base hits from Jessica Ford's triple in game one and Gianna Guerriero's double in game two as well.

Montana Young (15-4) and Hannah Harper (13-8) each picked up a win Tuesday, with Young starting game one and Harper in game two. Young held the Badgers to one earned run and struck out three batters, improving her season ERA to a team-best 3.83. Harper also had another successful outing, pitching a full game and holding the Badgers to three earned runs with no walks and two strikeouts.

Game 1: UWF 6, Spring Hill 2.

Erin Moon scored Gianna Guerriero off an RBI groundout after Guerriero reach on an error, stole second, and advanced to third on the next at bat. Spring Hill tied the game in the bottom of the first after an error by UWF allowed a runner to score unearned.

Jessie Baughan took the lead back in the second on the first of her two home runs on the day, scoring Cameron Wolfenden. The bats went quiet for a couple innings until Spring Hill cut the 3-1 lead to a one-run difference on an RBI double in the fifth inning.

At 3-2 in the top of the fifth, Chelsea Dumas scored Jessica Ford from third off an RBI groundout. Emma Brice hit an RBI single to left field to score Guerriero again. Vasquez closed the scoring for UWF with a triple to right field, scoring Brice. Spring Hill went down in order in the bottom of the inning as UWF took the 6-2 win.

 Game 2: UWF 7, Spring Hill 3

Spring Hill took an early lead in the first as the Badgers managed three straight hits and put multiple runners on. An RBI single brought in the Badger's first run and an RBI groundout scored the second.

UWF wasted no time tying it up at 2-2 in the second inning, with Baughan crushing her second home run of the day to center field scoring Harper. Once again both teams battled through the tie for a couple innings before UWF took a 3-2 lead with a Guerriero RBI double.
Shortly after, Vasquez knocked her grand slam to right field, scoring Wolfenden, Guerriero, and Dumas in the process and blowing the game open at 7-3. Ford contributed the last run of the game for the Argos on an RBI single that brought in Halie Wetherington

Down 8-2, Spring Hill managed to do a little more damage with a sacrifice flyout for an RBI in the sixth. It was too little too late as the Argos made quick work of the opening batters for the Badgers and earned an 8-3 game two win in Mobile.
