No. 2 UWF Knocks Off Lee. 6-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 2 University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated Lee University 6-1 on Saturday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Argonauts secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and won five of six singles matches.

West Florida secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Carlota Verdu and Sandra Recuenco triumphed at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win over Lee's Andrea Pascual Blanca and Rima Yoshida. At No. 2 doubles, Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva clinched the point by defeating Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer, 6-2. The No. 3 doubles match between Kylie Kochis, Sophie Smith of the Argonauts and Nicolette Fuhr, Jasmine Ibegbulam of the Flames was left unfinished at 5-3.

In singles, Recuenco opened with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Pascual Blanca 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Aline Midori Da Silva followed with a comeback win over Dwyer, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. At No. 1 singles, the Flames' Yoshida earned its sole point with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Verdu.

The Argonauts extended their lead when Martinez delivered a dominant performance at No. 4 singles, defeating Vitória Maximiliano 6-0, 6-0. Jorgensen added another point for the Argonauts with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, defeating Duarte 6-2, 6-2. Finally, Kochis completed the match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles over Fuhr.
