Argos Come Back to Take Game One Over Montevallo, Game Two Pushed to Saturday Due to Weather

12:00 and 2:00 new start time for Saturday doubleheader

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — No. 14 West Florida (38-10, 23-8) edged out the No. 22 Montevallo Falcons (39-12, 20-11) with a 4–3 victory on the road at Orr Park on Friday. The Argos secured the win with three doubles among its seven hits, overcoming a three-run second inning by Montevallo.
 
Due to weather, the originally scheduled doubleheader will be played tomorrow, with game two beginning at 12:00 PM CT.
 
Individual Highlights:
 
Haley Guffey pitched a complete game for West Florida, delivering 7 innings with 102 pitches, including 65 strikes, while allowing 7 hits and 1 earned run. Guffey issued just 1 walk and effectively managed the game to secure her 25th win of the season, improving her record to 25-4. 
 
Angelia Discenza drove in two runs with a single, contributing to the scoring effort in getting UWF back from the 0-3 defecit. Pippen added to the offense by collecting two hits, including a double, and recorded the winning RBI. Meg Fountain also doubled and tallied an RBI.

Montevallo took an early lead in the second inning, scoring three runs. Makayla Peters scored on a triple by Bentlee Stiner, followed by two unearned runs due to an error, putting Montevallo ahead 3–0.
 
In the third inning, West Florida tied the game with a strong offensive performance. Jessie Baughan scored on a double by Meg Fountain. Angelia Discenza then delivered a single up the middle, bringing in Fountain and Bella Holliday to level the score at 3–3.
 
The sixth inning saw West Florida take the lead. Nicole Mergen doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Kyndal Cornelius, who scored the winning run on a double by Abigail Pippen. This gave West Florida a 4–3 edge.
 
West Florida maintained its lead through the final inning, with Montevallo unable to score again. The game concluded with a final score of 4–3 in favor of West Florida.
