After a stellar playing career at UWF just over a decade ago, Felipe Lawall re-joined the program as a volunteer assistant coach in 2017.
Lawall played for Bill Elliot from 2003-06, helping the team to two Gulf South Conference regular-season titles, two GSC Tournament championships and a spot in the 2006 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship national semifinals.
As the assistant coach, Lawall coached UWF to win the GSC Championship title against Lee 2-1. This is the 10th GSC title for the men's soccer program and their 19th GSC tournament appearance. UWF would go on to host the second round of the Division II NCAA tournament against Chowan.
Lawall, a native of Sorocaba, Brazil, was an NSCAA All-America second team pick in 2006 and a two-time all-region selection. He earned all-tournament team honors at the 2006 NCAA Division II Championships and in two GSC tournaments.
Despite playing just two complete seasons at UWF, he finished his career with 32 goals, 21 assists and 53 total points - ranking in the top 5 all-time in each category. His 15 assists during the 2006 season still stand as a single season school record.
In 2006, he received the Pensacola Sports Association special achievement award. After his college career, Felipe was the 17th overall pick by the Orlando Sharks in the Major Indoor Soccer League Draft.
Lawall was inducted to the UWF Hall of Fame in 2015.
He started his playing career in 2001 at Union College in Kentucky, where he was named All Conference after scoring 10 goals and 10 assists. He also played at South Georgia College (NJCAA) and led the nation in goals (34), assists (19) and points (87).
Lawall holds the NSCAA National Diploma and has been a high school and club coach in Northwest Florida for the past 10 years. He was named Pensacola News Journal Boys Soccer Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
Lawall earned a bachelors degree in Physical Education and Exercise Science from UWF in 2006. Felipe is married to Erin Lawall and has four children, Felipe, Jolie, Leonardo, and Eva.
