Irene Recuenco

Irene Recuenco is in her second season as a graduate assistant for women's tennis after wrapping up a decorated collegiate career as an Argonaut. 

A native of Valencia, Spain, Recuenco played her final three seasons at UWF after playing her first two seasons at Northwest Missouri State. After being named an MIAA Scholar-Athlete in each of her seasons as a Bearcat, she placed on the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll in each of her first two years in Pensacola and the GSC All-Academic team each of her last two seasons as a Physical Education major. For her play on the court, she took home First Team All-GSC honors in consecutive seasons as a redshirt junior and senior in 2020-21 and 2021-22. 

In spring 2022, she finished 14-8 from the No. 2 position in singles play and went 14-7 with partner Raissa Wagner as the No. 3 pair. In singles, she went 3-1 against nationally ranked opponents, ending the season as the No. 23 player in the nation. For her efforts in her final season, she was named First Team All-GSC for her second straight year and GSC Player of the Week three times in the season.

The season prior, she played from the No. 2 position of singles and went 12-7 on the season, while going 10-9 in doubles for the Argos with a number of partners. She ended spring 2021 as the No. 29 ranked player in the nation to go with her First Team All-Conference nod.

In her first season after transferring, she finished fall 2019 and entered the spring as the sixth-ranked player in country. She claimed her first win in singles play as an Argo with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Thea Yang of West Alabama. She finished the GSC slate with 4-0 singles record and ended the 2020 season by defeating Dnyanada Patil of UT Tyler 6-3, 6-0 before the rest of the season was called off due to COVID-19.

In 2018-19, she finished the year ranked No. 15 in the ITA national rankings and with ITA All-American honors. She went 22-10 in singles and 15-6 at No. 2 singles, including a mark of 7-2 versus MIAA foes. She also went 22-6 in doubles, including 13-2 at No. 3 doubles and 7-2 at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 mark against MIAA doubles opponents.

In her first college season, she earned an All-MIAA Honorable Mention honor for her play at the No. 2 singles position and the No. 1 doubles position. She went 16-7 in singles matches, 16-6 at the No. 2 position while going 8-2 in conference play in singles matches. Her doubles mark was 16-6 overall and 6-2 at the No. 1 position.
