Meghan Eckert Barter came to the University of West Florida in 2003 after four years of administrative experience in NCAA Division I rules compliance. Her duties include monitoring compliance with the NCAA and Gulf South Conference and UWF rules education and enforcement.
In 2009 she was one of five individuals, and the lone Division II representative, presented with the Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA). The award is presented annually to recognize athletics administrators who are committed to providing high level service, guidance and inspiration to colleagues within intercollegiate athletics.
In 2004, Barter spearheaded UWF’s institutional self study which ensures athletic department integrity. The study covered academic and fiscal integrity, governance, rules compliance, and commitment to equity, student-athlete welfare, and sportsmanship.
Barter added the additional duties of Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) in 2006, a position required by the NCAA as the highest-ranking female administrator. In this capacity, Barter serves as an additional resource and outlet to coaches, staff and student-athletes. Promoted to Senior Assistant Athletic Director in 2008 and Associate Athletic Director on 2010, Barter has served on a variety of institutional and conference committees. She has also been the tournament director of numerous conference, regional and national tournaments hosted by the University of West Florida.
Her career in intercollegiate athletics began as Director of Compliance for NCAA Division I and Big South Conference member Radford University in Radford, Va. While at Radford, Barter played a pivotal role in RU's preparation for the NCAA Self Study, a process required for the certification of Division I member institutions by the NCAA. She has also served on RU's Intercollegiate Athletic Committee, International Student Advisory Committee, and Academic Advisory Committee.
Barter was a four-year starter and team captain on the Radford University’s Division I volleyball team, where she graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. Barter and her husband, Aaron, reside in Pensacola. The couple has two sons, Will and Jack.
