Ted Johnson serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Communications at the University of West Florida. In his role, Johnson oversees the athletic communications office and leads the department’s publicity, media relations, digital content, broadcast, and statistical operations. He serves as the primary media contact for the Argonaut football and men’s golf programs.

Johnson joined UWF in August 2024 after spending eight years at NCAA Division II member Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, New York. He most recently served as the Redhawks’ Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Content Strategy, overseeing communications efforts for 20 varsity sports. His responsibilities also included gameday operations, video broadcasts, social media, event management and the promotion of Roberts Wesleyan’s student-athletes, coaches and teams.

During his time at Roberts Wesleyan, Johnson helped publicize several of the most notable accomplishments in the department’s history. He covered the women’s lacrosse program’s run to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships, promoted a first-round selection in the 2021 National Lacrosse League Draft and documented national champion pole vaulter Brynn King’s pursuit of a place on the United States Olympic team.

Johnson was also part of the Roberts Wesleyan teams that earned the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence in 2021 and 2024. The honor recognizes service-oriented initiatives conducted by Division II institutions, and Roberts Wesleyan became the first school in Division II history to receive the award twice.

Before his tenure at Roberts Wesleyan, Johnson worked for two years in the advertising industry as a broadcast producer. He also served as an assistant sports information director at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, and worked as a newspaper reporter in Indiana.

A native of Pavilion, New York, Johnson graduated from SUNY Brockport in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and journalism. He and his wife, Dawn, have three children: Kinley, Luke and Oliver.
