MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of West Florida volleyball team defeated Gulf South Conference opponent Christian Brothers 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18) on the road Friday night. West Florida (18-6, 11-3 GSC) snaps a three-match losing streak with the win.
West Florida was led offensively on the night by
Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS) who tallied a career high 16 kills at an impressive .314 clip. Kuhlmeier also added 19 digs, four blocks and a service ace.
Fellow freshman
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) also had a stellar night as the setter tallied 38 assists in the win. StCyr also had eight kills, four blocks and 15 digs in the win.
UWF took the first set by a score of 25-17 as West Florida used a .371 team attacking percentage. Kuhlmeier tallied seven kills on seven swings with no errors for a perfect 1.000 attacking percentage in the first set. The Argonauts held the Lady Bucs to a .031 team attacking percentage in the first set.
West Florida dropped the second set 21-25 as Christian Brothers used a .366 team attacking percentage.
The Argonauts responded in the third set by holding the Lady Bucs to a -.056 team attacking percentage as UWF held CBU to eight kills. The Argos would go on to take the fourth set by a score of 25-18.
West Florida will continue Gulf South Conference play on the road this weekend as they face Union (Tenn.) on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. CT.
