PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team swept Gulf South Conference opponent North Alabama 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 27-25) at home on Saturday afternoon. West Florida (21-6, 14-3 GSC) tallied seven service aces en route to solidifying second place in the GSC.
UWF was led offensively on the day by freshman
Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS). Kuhlmeier tallied 14 kills on 29 swings with three errors at a .379 clip.
West Florida took the opening set 25-18 behind an impressive .406 team attacking percentage. UWF had 15 kills and only two errors in the opening set.
UWF started the second set with five unanswered points as freshman
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) tallied back-to-back service aces in the run. StCyr currently ranks fifth in the GSC in service aces per set. With a 17-9 lead in the second set, Kuhlmeier also tallied back-to-back service aces to extend the lead to 19-9. West Florida would go on to take the set by a score of 25-13.
Trailing 14-18 in the third set, West Florida would come out of a timeout and used a 5-1 run to force a UNA timeout. UWF was down 22-24 late in the third set before the Argonauts used a 5-1 run to take the third set by a score of 27-25.
West Florida will next play host to GSC leader Shorter on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. CT.
