UWF men's soccer season ends with 4-0 loss at Shorter

Argos fall to Shorter 4-0 in GSC quarterfinal match

ROME, Ga. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team fell to Shorter University 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament quarterfinal match Tuesday night. The Argonauts season comes to an end with the loss, ending with an overall record of 6-9-2 (4-4-1 GSC) while the Hawks advance to the semifinal match to face No. 1 seed Christian Brothers University.

"Up until 10 minutes into the second half, the game could have gone either way," said head coach Bill Elliott. "Credit to Shorter tonight, they played a quality ball game."

West Florida and Shorter played a competitive first half in the match, with each team totaling seven shots in the half. The Argos would convert four of those shots on goal while the Hawks only managed one shot on goal.

However, in the second half Shorter increased their offensive pressure and put their first goal on the scoreboard 13 minutes into the half. The Hawks would go on to score goals in the 71st, 73rd, and 82nd minutes with UWF unable to match their opponent on the scoreboard.

"When they got the go ahead goal, I think that took the wind out of our sails and we lacked belief to get back into the game."

With the loss, West Florida is eliminated from the GSC Tournament but will still host the GSC Semifinals and Final match at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola.
