HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The West Florida women's basketball team opens Gulf South Conference play on the road in Huntsville, Ala. Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to North Alabama to play the Lions in Florence, Ala. Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.
UWF opened the season going 3-1 in non-conference play, with its lone loss coming to nationally-ranked No. 20 Central Missouri in the Comfort Inn-vitational Thanksgiving Tournament championship game. UAH is 3-3 this season with a loss to powerhouse Nova Southeastern (5-1) and two losses to Trevecca Nazarene (2-4). UNA is 3-1 with its lone loss coming to No. 24 Arkansas Tech (5-0).
Argos ranked nationally in NCAA D-II
Kelly Preston leads all women's basketball players with a 76.9 (20-26) field goal percentage. She went 9-for-12 with 23 points Nov. 25 in her highest-scoring game this season.
Jasmine Wigfall is tied for first with a 100.00 (14-14) free-throw percentage. She is tied with nine players, and she and two others lead those nine with 14 free throws made.
Wigfall went 10-for-10 from the charity stripe Nov. 25 to tie UWF's school record of a perfect free-throw percentage with a minimum of 10 attempts. She already had one performance tied with that record, an 11-for-11 performance Nov. 25, 2013.
Brianna Williams is seventh in steals per game with 4.25 (17 in four games). She recorded seven steals Nov. 28.
Brewer named GSC Freshman of the Week
Toni Brewer was named the GSC Freshman of the Week after totaling 44 points and 31 rebounds in three games last week.
Her best performance of the week came against Arkansas-Monticello Nov. 28. The Huntsville, Ala. native scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for UWF's first double-double of the season. Her 25 points were the most by a UWF student-athlete since Dec. 17, 2012 and her 16 rebounds were the most since Feb. 22, 2014.
