PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida men's basketball team once again will host Gulf South Conference match-ups this weekend when they take on North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville.
The Argonauts will face the Lions on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the UWF Field House at 7 p.m. CT. UNA comes into the weekend with a 6-11 record and are 3-8 in the GSC, tied for eighth.
West Florida will then host UAH on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. CT. The Chargers currently lead the GSC with a 13-4 record and are 8-3 in the GSC.
Around the GSC
Alabama Huntsville and Delta State currently both lead the GSC at 8-3. Both are also streaking, having won four-straight each. At 7-4, there exists a four-way tie for second among Union, West Georgia, Shorter and West Alabama.
DSU and UWA will square off in a 1-2 battle on Thursday in a matchup that could turn out to be a block party. The Tigers top the GSC with 75-total team blocks (3.9 bpg), while the Statesmen are averaging a GSC-leading 4 blocks-per-game (68 total).
Saturday will see another big battle for DSU as the 'Okra' travel to Carrollton, Ga., to take on UWG. The Wolves are sporting a league-best 87.4 scoring offense, while DSU is allowing just 72.6 ppg. Another game that will have seeding ramifications, as far as the GSC Tournament is concerned, is the Union-Shorter tilt. The two newest members of the GSC are both 7-4 and tied for second. The Hawks have a conference-best 51.0 field-goal percentage and the Bulldogs are rocking a 43.7 field-goal percentage defense.
