October 2, 2015 PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 15-ranked University of West Florida men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against Union on Friday night at the UWF Soccer Complex. West Florida now stands at 6-2 on the year, with a 1-2 Gulf South Conference mark, while Lee stands at 6-2-1 and wins its GSC opener.
Freshman
Stephen Enderlin (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic High School for Boys) scored his team-high fifth goal of the season and got the Argos offense going with a 14
th minute goal, where he collected an
Allan Kuhne (Honolulu, Hawaii/Boca Raton Community HS) long throw in and headed the ball past the Flames keeper.
The Flames responded with a David Perez goal, where Jake Molony delivered a soft pass off a free kick to Perez who was able to convert on the long shot attempt. Before the end of the half, Lee would tack on another goal just seconds before the halftime break, via a Jonathan Finlay goal where he collected a Quade Marinell cross from the right side.
The two teams battled to a scoreless second half, securing a 2-1 victory for Lee. The Argonauts nearly tied the game on a
Felipe Oliveira (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) cross in the second half, but narrowly missed the opportunity to even the score.
West Florida outshot Lee 11-8, while also holding an advantage in corners, 6-3. Senior
Jorge Chirinos (Tampa, Fla./Leto HS) and junior
Marteinn Urbancic (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) led UWF in shots with two apiece.
Goalkeeper
Andre Moreira (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio de A a Z) recorded two saves in his effort against the Flames.
