PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 21-ranked University of West Florida volleyball team will play host to Valdosta State on Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. in the UWF Field House. Valdosta State is the reigning Gulf South Conference Tournament Champion and boasts an undefeated, 12-0 overall record.
UWF and VSU are the only teams unbeaten in conference play this season and enter tomorrow's match with UWF with a combined 22-match winning streak.
Fans attending tomorrow's match are encouraged to wear black for the 'Black out' promotion. Argo Armada App users will also receive double points for attending the match. West Florida will look to break the all-time attendance record tomorrow of 895 in the UWF Field House.
PROTECTING THE UWF FIELD HOUSEValdosta State has won the last two matchups with UWF including a 3-0 win over the Argonauts in last season's GSC Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. West Florida had won the previous 15 matches with VSU prior to the losses and is currently riding a 13-match winning streak against the Blazers in home matches at the UWF Field House.
VSU'S SUSANNA PEONINAValdosta State junior middle blocker Susanna Peonina enters Tuesday's matchup with UWF as the Gulf South Conference statistical leader in attacking percentage (.381) and blocks per set (1.15).
GSC DOMINANCEValdosta State won the 2014 Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship, ending West Florida's six-year run as conference tournament champions. VSU and UWF have a combined 47-7 record in conference play since the start of the 2014 season.
