Match Notes: Week 9
Live Coverage PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 23-ranked University of West Florida volleyball team will travel to Tennessee this weekend for its final regular season Gulf South Conference road trip of the season. West Florida (23-5, 15-1 GSC) will face Union (Tenn.) on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. CT before facing Christian Brothers on Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m. CT.
UWF has four regular season matches remaining in the Gulf South Conference and currently holds a one-match lead in the GSC over Valdosta State and North Alabama. West Florida has already clinched a birth in the 2015 GSC Tournament and will be looking to host the tournament for the first time since 2013. The team with the best conference record at the end of the regular season will host the conference tournament.
DUYN EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORSSenior
Autumn Duyn earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for her academic and athletic accomplishments for 2015 season. Duyn is the only volleyball student-athlete from the Gulf South Conference to earn academic all-district honors this season.
WE NEED MO' MOMonique StCyr currently leads the GSC in service aces per set (0.51) and already ranks eighth in career service aces (89) in UWF volleyball program history. The sophomore ranks second in the conference in assists per set (10.51) and ranks sixth in career assists (1,726) at West Florida. StCyr ranks 41st in NCAA DII this season in assists per set and ranks 28th in the country in service aces.
DUYN RANKS IN TOP TWO IN CAREER KILLS AND DIGSDuyn recently became the only player in UWF volleyball program history to be ranked in the top two in both career kills (1,303) and digs (1,442). She currently leads West Florida this season in kills (279) and kills per set (3.17) and ranks second on the team in digs (297) and digs per set (3.38).
ARGOS EARN NO. 5 SEED IN FIRST REGIONAL RANKINGSUWF came in at No. 5 in the first set of NCAA DII Volleyball South Region rankings. West Florida has a 16-3 in-region record and is the highest ranked team out of the Gulf South Conference in the regional rankings. UWF has the third-highest winning percentage in matches against in-region opponents among the south region teams that appeared in the first set of regional rankings.
UWF RANKS IN AVCA TOP 25 POLL FOR NINTH STRAIGHT WEEKWest Florida retained its No. 23 ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. UWF is the only team currently ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll from the GSC, and one of four teams representing the south region in the latest poll. This is the ninth consecutive week that the Argonauts have appeared in the top 25 poll.
MARTELLA LEADS GSC IN DIGS PER SETJunior
Tori Martella currently leads the GSC in digs per set (4.93) and total digs (449) and ranks 82nd in NCAA DII in digs per set. The junior ranks fifth in career digs at UWF (1,124).
