PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team (2-0, 1-0 GSC) opened up Gulf South Conference play by defeating North Alabama 9-0 at home on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won 8-0 at number one doubles. Junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) fought back from a 1-4 deficit to win 8-6 at number two doubles while junior
Lisa May (Oviedo, Fla.) and sophomore
Heather May Walton (Winter Park, Fla.) won decisively at number three doubles 8-0.
No. 4 Kochanova won 6-4, 6-1 at number one singles while Faure swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles. Bubelova won 6-0, 6-3 at number three singles while junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) won at number four singles 6-0, 6-1.
Amaral won 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) won at number six singles 6-1, 6-0.
West Florida will next face a pair of top-10 opponents in Valdosta, Georgia next weekend. UWF will face No. 2 Armstrong on Saturday, February 21 at 10 a.m. ET before facing No. 9 Rollins on Sunday, February 22 at 10 a.m. ET.
