PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 25 West Florida baseball team won a 15-8 slugfest against Spring Hill in the first of four games in three days at Jim Spooner Field.
UWF (7-5) totaled 21 hits in the victory as every Argonaut in the starting lineup recorded a hit and seven Argos recorded multiple hits.
"We swung the bats really well on a cold night," UWF coach
Mike Jeffcoat said. "We made some adjustments tonight. It was good to see guys up and down the order get going. It really started with executing the bunt and moving guys over."
Nic Strasser (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips HS) extended his hitting streak to 12 after going 4-for-5 with a double, 4 RBIs and three runs.
Kyle Hamner (Maitland, Fla./Edgewater HS) went 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI,
Sean Plunkett (Ocala, Fla./College of Central Florida) went 3-for-6 with two runs and
Ledarious Clark (Meridian, Miss./East Mississippi CC) went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs.
"The pitchers have got to do a little better," Jeffcoat said. "We had too many walks tonight and we kind of drug the game out a little bit. But, we improved from the weekend and are looking to do better tomorrow."
A quintet of UWF pitchers combined to allow eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits with six walks and nine strikeouts.
Jordan Martin (Milton, Fla./Wallace CC) was credited with the first win of his UWF career after pitching two innings and allowing one run with three strikeouts.
UWF will host Christian Brothers in a doubleheader Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field.
