VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated Gulf South Conference rival, and No. 11-ranked Valdosta State 8-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. West Florida (4-1, 2-0 GSC) defeats Valdosta State for the ninth straight time en route to the team's 44th conference win. The last time UWF lost a conference match was to Valdosta State in the GSC Tournament Championship on April 18, 2010.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won at number one doubles 8-4. Junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-3 at number two doubles while senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) won at number three doubles by default.
No. 4 Kochanova fell at number one singles 3-6, 1-6 while Faure won 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 at number two singles. Dikosavljevic won at number three singles 6-4, 6-3 while Bubelova won 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles.
Amaral won at number five singles 6-2, 6-1 while
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) won at number six singles by default.
West Florida will continue the season on the road next week against a pair of Gulf South Conference opponents. UWF will face No. 34 Shorter on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. ET before facing Lee on Saturday, March 7 at 9 a.m. ET.
